Healing at Work – Day 29

Yesterday, driving to eastern Oregon, I was thinking about people who are truly oppressed and face prejudice every day. I am sure they are aware that they cannot change the ignorance and prejudice they experience from privileged, mainstream folks every day out in the world. It is pervasive and accepted below the surface in the United States.

At the base of my thinking has been an attitude that I can change the situation with my response to it. Even with people in power. Maybe I can change my side of the equation. But I cannot change the other person. That is what people of color know. But it is a new learning for me.

Denise, you do not have to stick out a bad situation with other people’s issues. You can just move on.
